Can You Eat With Invisalign Clear Aligners?

One of the biggest advantages of Invisalign Clear Aligners for orthodontic treatment is that the aligners are removable.  This allows for removal of the appliances before eating, reducing restrictions on the types of food you might otherwise be restricted from eating with traditional braces, or that may make it harder to brush and floss after eating certain foods.  In the first few months months of wearing your Invisalign aligners, it is recommended that you eat soft foods while you are getting use to the aligners.  This way, if the aligners do happen to cause any minor irritation to your gums, hard, crunchy or abrasives foods won’t further irritate the sensitive areas of your gums.

Proper Care For Invisalign Aligners?

It is even more important to be diligent with your oral care regimen when wearing clear orthodontic aligners.  It is recommended that you brush and floss your teeth after each meal before placing your aligners back in your mouth to prevent bacteria, and food particles bacteria will feed on, from being trapped between you aligner and your teeth.  The aligners will create an environment that allows bacteria and acids to grow rapidly on any food left behind after eating, so it always recommended to brush and floss after meals before putting your aligners back in your mouth to prevent the possibility of tooth decay.

The same hold true for drinking liquids, especially those liquids that are more likely to stain your teeth like coffee, tea, red wine or sugary drinks or acidic juices that can become trapped between the aligners and your teeth and accelerate tooth decay.  Finally, avoid drinking hot drinks with your aligners in your mouth.  Hot liquids can distort the aligners and prolong your treatment plan.

How To Clean Your Invisalign Aligners?

Due to the removable feature of the Invisalign Clear Aligners, cleaning your orthodontic appliance is much easier.  Simply remove the aligners and brush and floss your teeth as you normally would, then use a little toothpaste on your toothbrush to gently clean the aligners, rinsing them well before putting them back in your mouth.  This is an important daily regimen to stick to to maximize your oral health during your orthodontic treatment.
